GDOT launches Twitter feeds for specific highways

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has created 16 new Twitter accounts for traffic alerts throughout the state.

Each feed is tailored to a specific highway or region, according to GDOT spokeswoman Chata Spikes.

Spikes told 11Alive only serious accidents will be tweeted, as opposed to every single stall and fender bender on the highways.

One dies in Highway 247 accident

One dies in Highway 247 accident

According to the Houston County Sheriff's Office, one person is dead after a two-car accident on Highway 247.

It happened just before 8 this morning, on Old Hawkinsville Road.

Lieutenant Brad Stone of the Houston County Sheriff's Department says the person died on the scene.

The accident blocked Hwy 247 north.

I-75 lanes to close for guardrail repair

I-75 lanes to close for guardrail repair

Crews plan to close specific lanes and shoulders for guardrail on I-75 north and southbound Thursday.

See where those closures will be, according to a GDOT news release.

Houston: I-75 SB, at mile marker 128, 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., single right lane closure and I-75 NB, between mile markers 130 and 131, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., single left lane closure

Peach: I-75 NB, at mile marker 148, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., single left lane closure

Lamar: I-75 NB, at mile marker 200, 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., right lane closure

Butts: I-75 NB, at mile marker 203, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., single left lane closure

Henry: I-75 NB, between mile markers 209 and 210, 8 p.m. until midnight, single right lane closure
