Northside Elementary Hosts 5K Run/Walk

The Northside Elementary School PTO will host a 5K Run/Walk on April 9.

The event will raise funds for playground equipment.

Students, teachers, faculty, family and friends can register. The registration fee for adults is $15, for Houston County Board of Education employees the fee is $10. Children can register for $5.

For families with up to five participants, the registration fee is $45.

The first 100 adult registrants are guaranteed a race-day T-shirt.

Veterans High School Coach Named Athletic Director of the Year

Veterans High School Coach Named Athletic Director of the Year

Veterans High School’s Coach David Bruce has been named Region 2-AAA Athletic Director of the Year. 

He will be honored Monday, Mar. 21, at the Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s state conference held in Savannah.

There are 10 schools in his region.  He was selected for the award by the region Athletic Director’s. 

Bruce holds degrees in health and physical education, having earned specialist and master’s degrees from Georgia College and a bachelor’s from West Georgia College.

Veteran’s High School is located at 340 Piney Grove Road in Kathleen.  Lionel Brown serves as principal.

Houston County Sharks Basketball Schedule

The Houston County Sharks will play this season’s first home game on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. 

The game will be played at Bonaire Middle School against the Clayton Eagles.  At the end of the season, the Sharks will host the State Tournament on Mar. 5, at Warner Robins High School.

All of the team’s basketball games will be played on Saturdays.  The season’s remaining schedule follows. 

 

Mercer Basketball Offers Two Ways for Free Admission to Navy Game on Friday

Mercer University will offer two ways to receive free admission ot the men's basketball game versus Navy on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Mercer University Center.

Mercer The first way to gain free admission is for anyone presenting their military identification card at the ticket window on the day of the game.

The other way to receive free admission is to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the door on game day. The toys will be distributed to families of military members stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base who are deployed abroad for this holiday season.

Black and White Gala

A White and Black Gala fundraiser will take place Friday, Dec. 10 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.at the Galleria Ballroom in Centerville.

The fundraiser will go toward helping high school athletes raise their SAT, ACT, high school graduation test scores, pass the GED and to teach successful life skills.

Peach State Rattlers, Inc. will pay college students to tutor the athletes that will be playing for the Peach State Rattlers,Inc, a Minor League Pro Football team that's coming to Central Ga.

Veterans Day 5K Race

Houston County 4-H is sponsoring a Veteran's Day 4-H 5K Race at The Georgia Agricenter and National Fairgrounds in Perry, Ga. on Thursday Nov. 11, 2010.

Entrance will be at the North Gate and registration will be at the clock tower at 2:45 p.m. The race will begin at 4:15 p.m. The race will occur around the perimeter of the grounds on pavement.

The race day registration fee is $20 for 4-H’ers and $25 for other runners. All proceeds will go to support 4-H and Houston County 4-H receives proceeds for every Houston County resident who registers.

T-Shirts will be provided for registered runners on race day while supplies last. For more information, contact the Houston County 4-H office at (478) 987-2028.
