Museum Volunteer Retires After 22 Years

A U.S. Air Force veteran from Warner Robins will hang up his Red Vest Friday, February 18, after giving more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the Museum of Aviation since 1989. 

That is according to a Museum of Aviation news release.

Norm Richards, who faithfully greeted visitors at the front door of the Museum for 22 years, is saying good bye after saying “hello” to thousands of visitors who came to see one of the largest Aviation Museums in the country.

Norm served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1975 as a communications officer, flight navigator, electronics warfare officer, an Inspector General and a Director of Logistics.  He spent the first half of his career as a B-52 crew member, instructor and evaluator in the Strategic Air Command, flying over 6,000 hours in B-52s including the one sitting in front of the Museum.

10 Great Dates kick-off is Thursday, February 17, 6:30 p.m. at Hephzibah Dining Hall located on Zebulon Rd. in Macon. 

Authors of 10 Great Dates, David and Claudia Arp, will be present to take the couples through their date night.

Local Mom Wins $200,000 Playing Powerball

A Warner Robins mother is celebrating a $200,000 Powerball win.

Sherry Mauldin won the prize by matching the first five winning numbers in the Feb. 12 drawing, a Georgia Lottery news release says.

Mauldin discovered her win on the Georgia Lottery website and immediately shared the news with her husband, Steven.

“He thought I was just playing until I turned white,” said Mauldin, an account executive with a telecommunications company.

Mauldin and her husband plan to pay bills and share the prize with their five children.

“I think we’re going on a cruise to the Bahamas this year,” she added. “We’ve been before, but we’ll make this one extra special.”

Winning numbers from the Feb. 12 drawing were: 11-32-36-48-52 and the Powerball was 19.

Publix Super Market on 1114 Ga. Highway 96 in Kathleen, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

Proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Speed Networking event, sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

Speed Networking is a structured effective and powerful event that’s fun and friendly and will provide new and established Chamber members the opportunity to meet industry related peers, business contacts & referrals in a pleasant environment.

The Speed Networking event includes a continental breakfast, followed by structured and timed meetings designed to afford participants maximum exposure in a short amount of time. Participants are encouraged to bring a stack of business cards and other paraphernalia to share and exchange with others.

The cost is $15.00 for Chamber members and non-members are welcome for $25.00.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 18, 2011There will be NO CANCELLATIONS after 5 p.m. on Friday, February 18.
