National Celebrities to Headline the Robins Regional Chamber's 56th Annual Christmas Parade

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber is pleased to announce that the 56th Annual Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013.  Featured as Grand Marshal this year will be NBC’s Today Show Weatherman, Al Roker and his wife, ABC News Network Correspondent, Deborah Roberts.  The duo will be featured on the very first parade unit, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Houston Road and Watson Blvd.

WRHS Hosts 16th Annual Heart of Georgia Band Competition

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Warner Robins High School Band and Band Boosters are pleased to announce that the 16th Annual Heart of Georgia Marching Band Invitational will be held at McConnell-Talbert Stadium on Oct. 26, 2013.  One of the premier marching contests in Georgia, Warner Robins High will host more than 20 bands of all sizes from various schools across the state.  Gates open at 10:00 a.m.  Performances begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until the awards ceremonies at 9:30 p.m.

There will be a variety of music during 20+ half-time shows by bands from across the state, to include our own Warner Robins High Demon Marching Band.  Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Middle school band students who wear their school band shirts are admitted free of charge.  Concessions will be sold, to include funnel cakes, cotton candy and beverages.

Governor Perdue to Visit Lake Joy Primary

Governor Perdue to Visit Lake Joy Primary

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Gov. Sonny Perdue will visit Lake Joy Primary School on Oct. 3, 2013, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  The governor will speak to the second grade students during two 30-minute sessions.

Sonny Perdue served as the 81st Governor of Georgia from 2003 to 2011.  Born in Perry, he and his wife reside in Bonaire.  His father was a farmer and his mother was a teacher.

Mercer Gets $12.4 Million Grant for Robins Research

Mercer University's Engineering Research Center in Warner Robins has been awarded a $12.4 million contract from the federal government.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the funding will be used for engineering research and to analyze potential deficiencies related to the Air Force's rotary-wing weapons systems.

Work during the contract will focus on identifying and solving structural and mechanical integrity issues, particularly those associated with age such as fatigue, cracking, damage tolerance and corrosion, a Department of Defense news release stated.

The Air Force expects the contract to increase aircraft availability and reduce maintenance downtime.

Work will be done in Warner Robins with an expected completion date of Sept. 19, 2014.
