National School Psychology Week

National School Psychology Week takes place from Nov. 8-12.

School psychologists work with parents and educators to help ensure children have the learning support they need.  They are trained to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally by addressing issues such as learning problems, behavior and discipline problems, social skills, mental health issues, problem solving, school safety, crisis prevention and intervention.

Houston County Board of Education (HCBOE) school psychologists are dedicated to promoting academic and personal success for their students. The HCBOE thanks its 11 school psychologists: Stephani Adams, Leslie Allen, Jim Elkins, Ellen Tanner, Chris Wellman, Margaret Humphreys, Jay Jimerson, Amy Brett, Kristen Peaster, Cory Smith, and Amy Smith.

Museum of Aviation Holds Poster Contest

The Museum of Aviation Education Department is inviting 4th graders to submit an entry in the 8th Annual Skyscapes Poster Contest.  This year’s theme is “What Can You Do With Red, White and Blue?” in honor of the American Flag’s Colors.

Individual entries must be delivered to the Education Department by Nov. 5, and judging will take place on Nov. 9.  Entries will be judged on artistic talent and creativity in representing the theme.  Posters will be judged by the Robins Air Force Base Officer’s Spouses’ Club and other community leaders. The top 7 winners will receive prizes, and their artwork will be on display in the Century of Flight Hangar for a year following the contest.

WRHS Seeks Donations for Demon Dress Drive

Warner Robins High School (WRHS) is holding its fifth annual Demon Dress Drive to collect formal wear for young women.  The Student Council seeks donations of gently used formal wear, bridal wear and semi-formal attire.

Donations may be dropped off at the Warner Robins High front office between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Jan. 21, 2011.  No items will be returned to the donor.

The dresses will be offered for sale to the public on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the WRHS Rockin’ R Cafe. The prices will be much lower than one might find elsewhere.  Refreshments will also be served.  All proceeds will benefit a Middle Georgia children’s charity.
