 4 Houston County Schools named AP STEM Achievement Schools

Four Houston County high schools were named 2014 AP STEM Achievement Schools by State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge.

Houston County High, Warner Robins High, Northside High and Veterans High were named.

An AP Challenge School is a school where students are testing in at least two AP math courses and 2 AP science courses and at least 40 percent of those test scores are earning results of three or higher, according to a release.

Houston County Schools won't make up weather days

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Houston County School System will not make up the school days missed due to inclement weather.  On Feb. 20, 2014, the State Board of Education approved State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge’s recommendation to give school districts flexibility to decide whether or not to make up the days.  Superintendent Dr. Robin Hines has decided that Houston County will not make up the one day that exceeded the four days allowed for inclement weather.

Houston County Superintendent Robin Hines announced Friday morning that he will retire at the end of the school year.

Hines made the announcement to the Board of Education staff during a regularly scheduled meeting.

He e-mailed a letter to other system staff, saying, "I want to let you know that after much consideration, I have made the decision to retire at the end of this school year."

2014 Houston County STAR Students, Teachers & STAR System Winners Announced

2014 Houston County STAR Students, Teachers & STAR System Winners Announced

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber’s Educational Foundation and the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2014 Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) System Award winners.  The 2014 STAR System Winners for Houston County are: student- Willa M. Wang and teacher- Sherin Hinnant from Houston County High School.  The award is given to one student from a high school in the county.  STAR students compete for System Title and System STAR student in turn compete for region honors in the 12 STAR Regions.  Region winners and their STAR teachers are invited to further compete for the state STAR awards.

Six seniors and teachers from each high school in Houston County were awarded on Wednesday evening.  The 2014 STAR students and their teachers who were recognized include:
