Macon State College Merger Passes Another Hurdle

The consolidation of Macon State College and Middle Georgia College has cleared another hurdle.

The regional accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS), approved plans to create the new Middle Georgia State College and three other institutions in the University System of Georgia.

Middle Georgia State College, Georgia Regents University, South Georgia State College and the University of North Georgia are being created through consolidation of eight state higher-learning institutions.

According to a news release from the University System of Georgia, approval by SACS is the final step needed before the Board of Regents approves the new institutions and appoints presidents.

The Board of Regents is scheduled to act on January 8, the news release said.

Middle Georgia State College will include campuses in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman and Warner Robins.
