Macon-based attorney John F. Kennedy won the district 18 state Senate seat against emergency physician Spencer Price.

Shortly after his victory, Kennedy thanked a group of more than 50 supporters at his law firm on Riverside Drive.

He told 13WMAZ his first run for political office has been a great experience.

"I feel great," Kennedy said, "It's been a wonderful night. not just for me but for my family and for my campaign and the opportunities it gives us. We are so grateful for the trust people have placed in us and I look forward to working really hard for the folks in this district."

He said he's focused on building business in middle Georgia.

"We're going to make sure that the policies and the laws at the Capitol are business-friendly so that we can maintain the businesses that we have and attract new businesses. We want to create more jobs here in the 18th district. We've got the best folks, we've got great resources," Kennedy said.

District 18, includes Monroe, Crawford, Peach and parts of Bibb and Houston counties.

The seat is held by Cecil Staton, R-Macon, who is not seeking reelection.

The winner of the Kennedy-Price race will not face a Democratic challenger in the general election.
