Chuck Shaheen to Announce Re-election Plans Today

Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen is expected to announce this afternoon whether he'll run for re-election.

Shaheen said Monday night that he plans a 5:15 p.m. announcement today on his election plans for 2013.

Qualifying for the mayor's race and city council seats begin Monday.

So far, Shaheen has declined to comment on whether he'll seek a second term. But he has clashed regularly with the city council, which recently cut back the mayor's powers.

Several candidates are already lined up to run for the mayor's office: council member Mike
Brashear; retired firefighter Randy Toms; Robins Air Force Base employee Chuck
Chalk; council member Daron Lee, minister Rev. Jeffrey Walker; and retiring public works director Joe Mussellwhite.

In 2009, Shaheen won the mayor's office by defeating Chalk in a runoff election by less than 200 votes.
