Robins Says 'Thank You' to Perdue

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. – Maj. Gen. Robert McMahon, Warner Robins Air Logistics Center commander, has invited Governor Sonny and Mrs. Perdue to a luncheon in his honor Monday.

Military and civilian workers from across the base will be on hand to thank Perdue for his support of Robins during his tenure as Georgia’s 81st governor from 2003 to 2011.

The luncheon is to be held at the Horizons club on base.

HCHS and WRHS Tie for System STAR Student

Miriam Baker, Warner Robins High School senior, and Vania Lee, Houston County High School senior, tied for the 2011 System Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) students for Houston County. 

STAR students select a teacher most instrumental in their academic success. 

Miriam selected Barbara Hilliard, AP Literature teacher, as her STAR teacher, and Vania selected Margaret Molyson, AP Chemistry teacher.    

The winners were announced during a program hosted by the Perry Area and Robins Regional Chambers of Commerce at the Houston County Board of Education central office.

  Each STAR student and teacher received a $500 savings bond, and the system winners took home an additional $500 bond, for a total of $1,000 each. 

Altogether the Chambers presented $7,000 in savings bonds as awards.

Chambers Honor STAR System Winners

Miriam Baker, a Warner Robins High School senior and Vania Lee, a Houston County High School senior, have been named the 2011 STAR Student System Winners for Houston County. 

The announcement was made yesterday by the Perry and Robins Regional Chambers of Commerce, regional sponsors of the Houston County STAR program.

Baker, the daughter of Gary and Pamela Baker, selected Barbara Hilliard, AP Literature teacher at Warner Robins High School, as her STAR teacher.

Lee, the daughter of Jung Lee, selected Margaret Molyson, AP Chemistry at Houston County High School, as her STAR teacher.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, in its 53rd year, is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Education.

Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps Hold Public Hearings

Sen. Robert Brown (D-Macon) and Rep. Bubber Epps (D-Dry Branch) together will hold two public hearings on Saturday, March 6.

At the first, to be held at the Twiggs County Courthouse, Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps will seek input on House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110 that could affect a Twiggs County landfill, and will also seek input on proposed salary increases for the Twiggs County Board of Education.

The second public hearing will be held at the Bibb Substation on Jeffersonville Road, also to discuss House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110. House Bill 274, if passed, would re-introduce yard trimmings and vegetative matter to landfills in Georgia.

Chamber Honors Outstanding Employee for January

The Robins Regional Chamber’s Small Business of the Month Committee presented Christina Elmore, Staffing Coordinator for Image Staffing, with the Outstanding Employee Award for the month of January 2010.  

“Christina Elmore has been a valuable asset to Image Staffing,” said Bruce Hullett, Operations Manager.  “We have had several clients contact me to tell me what a pleasure it is to deal with Christina.”

Hullett said that many clients have also expressed how polite Christina was when handling the most difficult circumstances.

“Being internally involved, I have witnessed Christina answering the telephone the exact same way--polite and with a smile--every time, regardless of how she feels or what is going on in the office,” said Hullett.
