Accused Bank of America Robber Arrested

Thanks to tips from people in Central Georgia, the man accused of robbing a Bank of America in Warner Robins was arrested over the weekend, according to a news release.

The release says police arrested 31-year-old Robert Thomas Shantz in Tennesee. Shantz is currently in the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, TN., facing extradition to Georgia.

 

Police: Woman Kills Husband, Attempts Suicide

A Warner Robins woman is in critical condition after police say she killed her husband and tried to kill herself.

Police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh says it happened Friday.

She says a family member found Brian Smith shot to death in his Jay Drive home. Pugh says Smith's wife Ebony was in the back bedroom of the house.

According to police, Ebony shot her husband, then tried to kill herself by taking medication.

She's listed in critical condition at the hospital.

Pugh says Ebony Smith will be charged with murder in her husband's death.

Sheriff's Office: Man Arrested After Bibb, Houston Chase

The Houston County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Sunday night after a car chase through Bibb and Houston counties.

Deputies arrested Brett Donald Justice, of Warner Robins, around 6 p.m. on charges of obstructing officers and traffic offenses, according to Houston County Sgt. James Middlebrooks.

The sheriff's office had been looking for Justice, who authorities consider a "person of interest" in two arson crimes, two burglaries, and as many as 20 car break-ins, since Thursday, Middlebrooks said.

He says Justice fled from Warner Robins police Sunday afternoon, when officers recognized him from a be-on-the-look-out, notice.

According to Middlebrooks, the car Justice was fleeing in crashed near Davis Drive and Highway 247. He says that's when Justice ran into nearby woods.

WRALL and Baldwin Win State Openers

Warner Robins got its bid for a third straight Little League State Softball Championship off to a strong start Saturday in Elberton, as did the team they beat in the 2010 championship game.

WRALL topped Glennville 10-1. They'll continue pool play Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Franklin Co.

Baldwin Co. won its pool play opener against Franklin Co., with a decisive 12-1 mercy rule shortened win. They will face Bellville Sunday at 6 p.m.

I-75 Lane Closures in Henry, Houston, and Dooly Counties

Travelers on I-75 will want to be aware of possible delays due to road construction in Houston, Dooly, and Henry counties. 

 

The Department of Transportation is closing one lane of I-75 southbound, and one lane northbound, in Houston and Dooly counties between mile markers 117 and 127.

The work starts tomorrow and should be finished by next Saturday.

Another project will mean a single lane closure in Henry County between mile markers 210 and 211. 

That work will happen Monday and should only take a day, according to the DOT.

Former Warner Robins Police Chief Becomes a Pirate

Dan Hart served the City of Warner Robins as its police chief for ten years.

He retired in 2003, but he's still holding prisoners. Now, he's playing the part of pirate.

When in full theatrical costume, Hart calls himself "Dungeon Dan."

Friday, he and his wife, who calls her character "Kruel Kathy," came in pirate regalia to Pirate Camp at the Museum of Aviation.

They travel to parades and pirate gatherings in Georgia and along the coast of Florida.

Dan says he fell in love with the "pirate life" while growing-up in Tampa. He says now that he is retired, he finally has time to devote himself to the hobby of reenacting 18th century pirates.

Former St. Jude Patient Tours Dream Home

Will Asbell toured the St. Jude Dream Home with his mother and instantly found his favorite room.

"It's all pretty," Will said.

He says he also liked the master bathroom with the big bath tub and shower.

Will Asbell was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 6 months old. He underwent treatment at St. Jude Children's Hospital. His mother Resa Asbell says the hospital helped her family stay strong.

"It's like a ray of sunshine when you walk in there. It's a warm feeling in the midst of all the confusion and all the scary things that are going through your mind, and the children who are walking through there fighting for their lives everyday, you just see smiles on there face because they love it there, " said Resa Asbell.

She says it's wonderful to look at her son and see him happy.
