Deal Says John Williams Can Stay on Council
News

John Williams will be staying on the Warner Robins City Council at least for the time being.

That's according to the office of Gov. Nathan Deal.

Last week, a three-member panel considered criminal charges against Williams for allegedly filing false report of a stolen cell phone.

The panel said Williams should not be suspended from the council, because the criminal case didn't involve his council duties.

Deal went along with that panel's decision, said his spokeswoman, Stephanie Mayfield.

Williams is still awaiting trial on that felony charge of making false statements.

Contacted Tuesday, he said, "I'm elated. I enjoy my work and will continue to work for the people of Warner Robins."

He also "can't wait" to go to court and get his trial over with. He says it's scheduled to start Feb. 23.
