GBI: 5 Officers Fired Shots in Fatal Warner Robins Shooting | News

The GBI Special Agent in charge of a fatal, police-involved shooting case in Warner Robins Sunday night, says five officers fired shots at Anthony Rawls.

Agent Rodney Wall says there were six officers at the scene.

Rawls was the 49-year-old prison guard who died at his home after police were called to a domestic disturbance.

Wall says so far, the GBI investigation shows Rawls pointed a gun at his wife, and then fired shots at police. He said one bullet grazed an officer, causing a very minor injury.

The autopsy shows Rawls died from multiple gunshot wounds, but he did not know how many bullets struck Rawls.

Wall says the GBI's investigation could take up to 30 days to complete. The agency's findings will be turned over to Houston County District Attorney George Hartwig. He will decide if the shooting was justified or not.

Warner Robins Police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh says the officers are on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete. She says the department is also conducting their own internal affairs investigation to evaluate if the officers followed department policies.

Police, nor the GBI, have identified the officers involved in the incident.
