Man Shot By Warner Robins Police Was Prison Guard | News

Houston County's assistant coroner has identified a man reportedly shot by Warner Robin police.

He is 44-year-old Anthony Rawls, according to assistant coroner Lee Dixon.

She said Rawls' body was sent this morning to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy.

Warner Robins police say he was fatally shot after exchanging shots with officers Sunday night.

The state corrections department says Rawls was a lieutenant at Macon State Prison and worked for the department since 1991.

A police news release says officers were called to his home at 106 Huntwood Lane for a domestic disturbance.

They were told that Rawls had a gun and was threatening his wife.

Police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh says more than one officer fired shots.

Rawls was pronounced dead on the scene, and police say one officer suffered minor injuries.

Sunday night, Warner Robins police asked the GBI to  investigate. The department is also doing its own internal investigation.

She said the officers involved are on paid administrative leave -- that's standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.
