VanOsdol Named 2012 Warner Robins Officer of the Year | News
He's trained in defense tactics, firearms and even rappelling from tall buildings.
He's not Superman, but the Warner Robins Police Department's Officer of the Year.
Lt. Lee VanOsdol grew up in Warner Robins, with what he called a "healthy respect" for police officers.
He decided to make policing his career in 1994.
VanOsdol worked his way through the ranks to his current position as a patrol supervisor.
A fellow officer nominated VanOsdol for this year's award, praising his leadership of his staff, interactions with the community and confidence in tense situations.
VanOsdol said, "I try really, really hard to be an example for my guys, and try really hard to make them want to keep coming here, keep their heads up and understand sometimes we go through hard times."
He said one of the best parts of the job is watching young officers advance in their careers. He always lets them know right away that it's not all action and catching bad guys. In fact, VanOsdol says that's only about 2-percent of the work.
