Sharks Win Handball Championship

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA - The Houston County Sharks won the State Varsity Handball Championship this past Saturday at the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs State Wheelchair Handball Tournament.  The championship playoff was held at the J. P. Moseley Recreation Center in Stockbridge, Ga.  This is the Sharks' second year playing Varsity and sixth state championship in four school years!

Christy Jones, orthopedic impaired teacher, is the area coordinator of the program.  In addition to Jones, the Sharks coaches are:  Brenda Arnett, Warner Robins High; Ryan Brown, community coach; and Stephen Roberson from Warner Robins High School.

Coach Jones summarized the game.  "The Houston County Sharks captured the State Varsity Handball Championship in an exciting sudden death, overtime match.  Ja-Que Billingsley of Northside High, goalie, led the defense with 21 blocked shots holding the Wolverines to a season low of five goals.  Team captains Ben Masters and David Presley, both of Warner Robins High, along with teammates William Moore, Houston County High, and Gracie Webb, Matt Arthur Elementary, worked hard to keep the Wolverines from getting open shots.

The Sharks offense was led by Jeff Sweeney, Warner Robins High, Braxton Robinson, Northside Middle, and Jordan Kozloski of Feagin Mill Middle.  A score of five goals forced a sudden death in overtime.  After winning the overtime coin toss, Sweeney quickly scored the winning goal.  Kierra Miles, Bonaire Middle, Faith Beiker, Warner Robins High, and Kelley Jordan, Houston County High, set key picks allowing their teammates open shots."
