Orchard Catches Fire Near Veterans H.S.

Warner Robins Fire Department says about 50-acres or more of a pecan orchard caught fire Monday next to Veterans High School in Houston County.

The dry air and strong winds quickly spread the flames, according to the fire department. 

Four fire trucks loaded with fire fighters from Houston County, Warner Robins, and Perry contained the brush fire at Old Perry Road and East Bob White Road took four firetrucks to contain. 

Students were sent home a few minutes early.

Firefighters were at the scene to wet down the flames.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
