Warhawks Softball look to Repeat Elite 8 Performance

The gridiron is not the only hot spot for high school highlights this fall. In fact the girls diamond will be scorching with fast pitch softball as well.

The softball season is already a few weeks underway and the Veteran Lady Warhawks find themselves at 6-2 overall. Under the direction of third year head coach Mitch Horton, the girls are preparing for a Softball in the Sand tournament in Brunswick over the Labor Day weekend, testing their play against non-region talent before they jump into the meat of their region 2-AAAA competition the first week of September.

Veterans has only been open for 3 years but has tasted success in the post season. Last year the team made it to the Elite 8 after entering the playoffs as a fourth seed. Coach Horton says his team is still hungry for more.

"They are really a laid back group", says Horton." They like to sit back and not feel pressure. They like to be easy going coming into games. On the flip side of that they really want to get back to the Elite 8. They feel like they have something to prove their so the effort they put in has been great and hopefully it will continue throughout the season."

Last time out, Veterans rolled over Baldwin 18-3. This Thursday the Warhawks host Rutland on campus starting at 5:30.
