Georgia Firefighter of the Year from Warner Robins
News

Troy Hamilton, a 14 year veteran of the Warner Robins Fire Department was named this year's Georgia Firefighter of the Year by the Georgia State Firefighters Association.

Georgia Ann Smith, the GSFA's CEO said she was impressed with Hamilton's "go-getter" attitude, his work ethics, and his willingness to volunteer above and beyond his job.

Hamilton serves as an engineer and driver at Station #5 in Warner Robins, where he fields the 911 calls, drives the trucks, and gets hoses and equipment prepared.

"Without him, we ain't got water, we ain't got what we need to resolve the situation," explains firefighter Austin Redmond, who says Hamilton has a been a great mentor to him.

But what Hamilton says he thinks got him the award was his volunteer work.  Hamilton volunteers on the dive team, honor guard, and as a wildland firefighter helping with the wildfires in Waycross, Ga.  He also helped out after Hurricane Katrina.

For Hamilton, it's all part of the job he loves, and he wouldn't have it any other way.  "I am kind of an adrenaline junkie," he says. "If there was more things to volunteer for, you know if we had some cliffs to jump off of, it's just what I like to do."
