Houston County Man Gets Life for 2008 Murder | News

A Houston County jury convicted Eugene Leslie of Malice Murder, Felony Murder and four other crimes in the shooting death of Jason Wade, a former WMAZ videographer.

Wade was fatally shot six times in his home on Aug. 28, 2008, by Leslie who once lived with Wade and was upset that he'd been kicked out. Leslie then procured a .40 caliber pistol from an associate for drugs and cash, according to a press release Thursday afternoon.

The 29-year-old Leslie was sentenced to Life without Parole, plus an additional 45 years, by Chief Judge George F. Nunn.

At the trial, Leslie's former girlfriend testified she saw him fire shots at Wade. Leslie was arrested less than 48 hours later during a traffic stop when crack cocaine and powder cocaine were found in his pants and hate. The gun was never recovered.

The jury deliberated for less than 90 minutes before handing down the conviction.

In the press release, Houston County District Attorney George H. Hartwig, said, "...Eugene Leslie is a stone-cold murderer. Justice has finally been served. I certainly hope this verdict and sentence brings some closure for the Wade family."

Wade worked at 13WMAZ in the late 1990s.
