Special Olympics Returning to Warner Robins | News

The Special Olympics Georgia Masters Bowling tournament will continue coming to Warner Robins through 2015.

Director of the Warner Robins Convention and Visitors Bureau Marsha Buzzell says the Special Olympics Georgia committee chose to award the games to Warner Robins for 2013, 2014 and 2015.

She said Warner Robins has hosted the tournament for the past few years, and wanted to keep bringing it back.

Buzzell said the city competed with Savannah for the bid, and that the coastal city "gave Warner Robins a run for its money."

She said the City of Warner Robins will commit $19,000 to help off-set the Special Olympics costs. The state will also supply some funding.

The tournament brings about 1,000 athletes from around the state, plus about 250 coaches and the athletes families.

Buzzell says the tournament creates a $600,000 economic impact annually.

This year's tournament will be held August 24th through August 26th.
