Judge: John Williams Tried to Contact Grand Juror | News

A federal judge today said bond was revoked for former Warner Robins city councilman John Williams because he contacted someone connected to a grand juror.

U.S. District Court Judge Marc Treadwell did not explain further, but said Williams would remain in federal custody after the brief hearing and begin his 14 month sentence immediately. 

U.S. Attorney, Michael Moore, said it is uncertain at this time where Williams will serve his sentence.

Treadwell said, "We take this very seriously" and that Williams' action posed a threat to the grand juror.

He said Williams contacted "someone with a relationship with a grand juror" after last Thursday's sentencing hearing.

At the beginning of the hearing, council went into the judge's chambers for around ten minutes.  During that time, Williams winked a couple of times at his wife, Elna and tried to mouth words back and forth.

A U.S. Marshall deputy approached Elna Williams and said, "There will be no contact. He has to be here (referring to John Williams), he is in custody, but you do not, we can escort you out."

On Monday, Williams was brought into the Bibb County jail after his bond was revoked.

Last week, Treadwell sentenced Williams to 13 months in federal prison and then gave him 4 weeks to report.

But on Monday, Treadwell issued an order revoking Williams' bond "for good and sufficient cause shown to the court."

Last week, Treadwell said he would send Williams to jail immediately if he violated his bond.  Williams was convicted of trying to profit from the city's purchase of a police vehicle in April.
