Houston County wants everyone to know they support the military. Soon, even one of their water towers will sport that message.

Commissioners agreed Tuesday to paint the water tower on Highway 96, just west of Houston County High School, in patriotic print.

It will be striped with red, white and blue. It will have the acronym for Every Day In Middle Georgia Is Armed Forces Appreciation Day painted on the stem.

Commission Chairman Tommy Stalnaker said the total cost is $58,000. That's $40,000 more than a typical tan paint job, but Stalnaker says it's worth the money.

He said, "We feel like people traveling in between I-16 and I-75, it will be a landmark for them to see. Hopefully, they will understand that people in this county are very patriotic, and we support our military."

The painting will begin in late fall and be finished by the end of the year.

Stalnaker said the water towers need painting every few years. He says they plan to stripe more water towers in patriotic print in the future.
