Scammers targeting central Georgia businesses | News
Flint Energies is warning customers of a scam where people are calling businesses and telling them their bill is overdue and must pay immediately.
Jimmy Autry of Flint Energies said Tuesday that My Father's Place and Atlanta Bread Company in Warner Robins received bogus calls demanding they pay overdue bills immediately or their power would be turned off.
Autry said Flint does not make such calls.
Autry says the businesses were told to purchase a prepaid card from CVS to pay over the phone, thus making the money impossible to track down.
Flint Energies posted the warning on its Facebook page:
"Beware of scammers working Warner Robins today, trying to get your money. We have reports that restaurants are being called and told that Flint is on the way to cut off their power for non-payment of bills. The scammer will ask that you specifically buy a prepaid card from a local CVS store to pay your bill. Please share with your friends: Flint will not make calls where we ask you to pay over the phone and we DO NOT ask you to buy a prepaid card to pay the bills."
