Staton tapped for new role with University System | News
Outgoing Senator Cecil Staton will soon be working in a new role with the Georgia Board of Regents.
Chancellor Hank Huckaby of the Georgia Board of Regents announced today Staton will become their new Vice Chancellor for extended education.
In Staton's new role he will work as a liaison among the Regents, the University system, state government and other partners. He will also be responsible for strategic and long-term planning. His new role includes working with the deans and faculty to address requirements that could have an impact on program and service areas.
Staton comes to the University System with years of experience in higher education after filling multiple leadership roles at Mercer University.
Staton will begin his new position on June 1, 2014. Cecil Staton's salary in his new position will be $165,000. Staton tells 13WMAZ in anticipation of this position, he will divest some of his businesses and his wife will play a greater role in some of his other business interests.
