Just two races on Houston's May primary | News
Houston County voters will decide just two local races in their May 20 primary.
Three people qualified for the Post 6 seat on the board of education currently held by Jim Maddox.
They are Sheila Ashley, Griff Clements and Hoke Morrow. The race is non-partisan.
Two Repubicans are running for clerk of state court: incumbent Kendra Hancock Simons and challenger Alyson Stuckart. No Democrats qualified for that race, so the winner of the May primary will be elected unless a write-in candidate comes forward.
These candidates have no opposition: Jason Ashford, judge of state court; Marianne Melnick, Board of Education District 2; Fred Wilson, Board of Education District 4; Rick Unruh, Board of Education Post 1 (special election): county commission chairman Tommy Stalnaker; and Post 2 commissioner Jay Walker.
If necessary, the Post 6 runoff would be held July 22.
