Exploding power station causes fire in Bonaire | News
A transformer exploded at a Georgia Power substation in Bonaire, setting the substation on fire, according to Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams. The explosion was reported just after noon at Sandy Run Road and Highway 247. He said so far no injuries are reported.
Georgia Power spokeswoman Carol Boatwright said the fire apparently had not caused any outages and that the cause remains unknown.
But she said many Central Georgia customers reported that their lights dimmed briefly due to the fire earlier this afternoon. That was probably caused by downed lines in the substation.
The power flickered briefly at 13WMAZ in east Macon and interrupted our midday newscast.
