New Health Clinic Opening In Warner Robins | News
City officials and First Choice Primary Care are partnering to bring a new health clinic to North Davis Drive in Warner Robins.
First Choice Primary Care runs another clinic on Walnut Street in Macon.
"We wanted to work together to bring better health care to citizens on the north side of town," Mayor Chuck Shaheen said. "This will be a non-emergency clinic. The best thing about it is, they'll take you if you have insurance, no insurance, Medicaid, Medicare."
Shaheen announced on Monday morning that over $1.5 million in federal grants to fund the clinic have been approved. After three years, the city will have to re-apply for the grants to continue the clinic.
The clinic will provide general primary care with services like check-ups, flu shots, x-rays and blood tests.
Sonny Watson, chairman of the Houston Healthcare System Inc., says clinic fees will be based on a sliding scale determined by federal grant guidelines.
Katherine McLeod, CEO of First Choice Primary Care, says at the Macon clinic, patients with an income at or below 100% of the poverty line pay $45 for the first visit and $35 for every visit after that.
Some Warner Robins Northside residents told 13WMAZ the clinic is necessary, and that it will help people who can't easily get to the Houston Medical Center.
"Finding a ride and taking a hospital trip... you're paying a fine. You're paying a fee," Angel Williams, Northside resident said. "At least you can take a ride [to the clinic] or walk. I really think it's benefiting the community. It' making a difference."
City officials have tentatively decided to put the center at 301 N. Davis Drive. They say they hope to have the clinic up and running by January.
