Leaders Gather For Perry's State of Community Luncheon

City, county, and state leaders gathered to discuss the issues at Perry's State of the Community luncheon.

The panel included such community leaders as retired Major General Bob McMahon, President & CEO of 21st Century Partnership, Perry's Mayor Jimmy Faircloth, Houston County Commissioner Chairman Tommy Stalnaker, Houston County Superintendent Robin Hines, and Perry Economic Development coordinator Mary Beth Bass.

They discussed a variety of topics including education, T-SPLOST, and the city's budget. But some of the issues went beyond just Perry, like the local impact of the fiscal cliff and the importance of Robins Air Force Base.

"And so all of us will be watching what occurs in Washington over the next few months and over the next few years, and whether it is trying to understand taxes resolving the fiscal cliff resolving sequestration or the anticipation of when, not if, when the next Base Realignment Closure will come each and everyone of those events will have a profound effect one way or another on Middle Georgia," said McMahon. "We have to work together in conjunction with the other elements of Middle Georgia to figure out how best we move forward because it is only as a community and together that we are going to deal with the many challenges that we face."
