Go to your pantry and start looking at expiration dates. Toss expired food as well as food that has gone stale. Use this as an opportunity to group like objects together in the pantry (i.e. canned veggies, soups, cereals, rice and pasta).
Also make mental note of what you have an overabundance of, say canned tomatoes, and what you are out of. Plan your next few shopping trips and weekly menus accordingly.
If you have lots of small objects such as spice packets, you may want to invest in a few small bins to keep them all together.
