What's In Your Wallet | Families

I have a recurring nightmare that rears its ugly head around the time of a big trip. In my dreams I have lost my wallet/purse and all its important contents and I have no way to contact my credit card companies.  Unfortunately this personal dream has become a reality for many people.  In this age of identity theft it only takes the loss or theft of one item in your wallet to cause a huge, and often expensive, headache.

So in preparation for an upcoming trip I am finally going to do something to ward off the recurring nightmare. Using my printer/scanner I am going to scan the fronts (AND backs) all the credit cards, insurance cards and identity cards (like driver’s license and passport) that I carry around with me.  Then I will put a printed copy in my lock box and I will keep a password protected PDF of the scans on my computer. Now if my wallet disappears I will have some way to cancel the credit cards and prove I have insurance!

Added bonus: When taking the cards out to scan, you can take the opportunity to clean out the old receipts, business cards and other detritus that collects in your wallet.  What’s the strangest thing you’ve found in your wallet? Inquiring minds want to know!
