Minor Injuries Reported as Houston Bus Overturns | Families
Two children reported minor injuries when a Northside Elementary School bus overturned in Houston County Thursday morning.
Witnesses say the bus skidded off the road. When the bus driver over corrected. The bus spun around and fell sideways into a ditch.
"Once the nose of the bus hit, the bus turned completely up, tilted up on the nose, axle in the air and then flipped over into the ditch," says Steve Horne who was driving behind the school bus.
The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. near Westside Baptist Church, at 1101 Dunbar Road. That's near Simmons Road.
School spokeswoman Beth McLaughlin says six children were on board the bus. One reported a bloody nose, another said his arm hurt, she said.
All six students, the bus driver and monitor were taken to be checked out at Houston Medical Center. None of the injuries appeared serious, she said.
She said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
School transportation director Tom Walmer said Thursday morning's rainy weather likely contributed to the accident.
Head investigator, Mark Collier, says the bus driver was driving less than 40 miles an hour. The speed limit on that road is 45.
