Local Children Selected for Touring 'Wizard of Oz' Show

The National Tour of “The Wizard of Oz” announced that 12 children from Central Georgia will perform the roles of munchkins in Macon showings of the beloved classic live on stage.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be performing at The Grand Opera House March 15-16 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Macon.

That is according to a Grand Opera House news release

Macon dance studio Academy of the Performing Arts auditioned, selected and will prepare all 12 munchkins for their choreographed songs and dances in the production. The children will have the opportunity to dance alongside a nationally touring Broadway company and learn valuable, real-world skills while having fun. Owners Sylvia Haynie and Laura Voss, both with 30 years’ experience, are excited to be a part of this production.

The Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Tip’s VIP Lounge

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting for Tip’s VIP Lounge on February 10.

Located at 4027 Watson Blvd, Tips VIP Lounge is an entertainment venue for adults who are females 25 years and older, and males 30 years and older. 

Tip’s offers a relaxed setting with an intimate atmosphere, food superlative service.  Listen to smooth jazz, R&B and Blues.  Also, feel free to let your hair down and enjoy line dancing the night away.

“We are so excited to offer this new venue for adults who enjoy live jazz music as well as ballroom and line dancing,” said co-owner and manager, Stephanie Fears.  “Females must be at least 25 years of age and males must be 30 years of age to enter.  There is also a dress code.”

Museum Volunteer Retires After 22 Years

A U.S. Air Force veteran from Warner Robins will hang up his Red Vest Friday, February 18, after giving more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the Museum of Aviation since 1989. 

That is according to a Museum of Aviation news release.

Norm Richards, who faithfully greeted visitors at the front door of the Museum for 22 years, is saying good bye after saying “hello” to thousands of visitors who came to see one of the largest Aviation Museums in the country.

Norm served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1975 as a communications officer, flight navigator, electronics warfare officer, an Inspector General and a Director of Logistics.  He spent the first half of his career as a B-52 crew member, instructor and evaluator in the Strategic Air Command, flying over 6,000 hours in B-52s including the one sitting in front of the Museum.  

Little Theatre Hosts Auditions

Auditions will take place February 28 and March 1 for a musical comedy, "Sing Hallelujah" by Bob Payne and Jim Hesselman.

Auditions begin at 7 p.m. at Warner Robins Little Theatre.

"Sing Hallelujah" is about a North Carolina that tries to set the new preacher straight with his preaching and his going to the "wrong" side of town to witness.

Eight characters, both men and women ages 20 and older are needed.

A men's quartet is also needed.

Warner Robins Little Theatre is located at 502 South Pleasant Hill Dr.

Middle Georgia Healthy Community Initiative is Celebrating National Marriage Week Feb. 13 – 17. 

10 Great Dates kick-off is Thursday, February 17, 6:30 p.m. at Hephzibah Dining Hall located on Zebulon Rd. in Macon. 

Authors of 10 Great Dates, David and Claudia Arp, will be present to take the couples through their date night.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Speed Networking event, sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

Speed Networking is a structured effective and powerful event that’s fun and friendly and will provide new and established Chamber members the opportunity to meet industry related peers, business contacts & referrals in a pleasant environment.

The Speed Networking event includes a continental breakfast, followed by structured and timed meetings designed to afford participants maximum exposure in a short amount of time. Participants are encouraged to bring a stack of business cards and other paraphernalia to share and exchange with others.
