Green Up 2011 Preview

Green Up landscape update and trade show is planned for February 15 at Macon State College in Macon.

Turf, landscape, golf course and grounds maintenance personnel can find up-to-date training, pesticide certification credits and interaction with others in the industry at the annual Green Up landscape update and trade show.

Attendees can choose from four educational tracks:

Management track for business issues, basics review information for crews, green landscaping for environmental practices and new ideas to introduce the latest trends.

Early registration costs $40 and after February 5, the cost is $50 to register.

Feagin Mill Middle School Recycling Nationally Ranked

Feagin Mill Middle School (FMMS) has joined FundingFactory, a program to fundraise through recycling.  The program has enabled FMMS to purchase two slates to interact wirelessly with interactive whiteboards. 

FMMS has been ranked in the top six percent of schools and top 10 percent nationally regarding its recycling efforts.

The FundingFactory program recycles empty printer cartridges and cell phones in return for a check or redemption points toward purchases. 

FMMS sent in enough cartridges and phones to rank number 526 out of 9,593 schools for total qualifying items sent in for the past 12 months.  The school used the earnings to purchase two SMART AirLiners. 

FMMS Principal Dr. Jesse Davis encourages the public to recycle cell phones and ink cartridges by donating them to the school. 

FMMS is located at 1200 Feagin Mill Road in Warner Robins. 

Made 2B More Hosts Coat Drive

Made 2B More Hosts Coat Drive

Made 2B More is collecting clean, reusable coats for individuals in Houston County.

Donators can drop off coats Tuesdays through Thursdays 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-12 p.m. through Dec. 17.

According to the organization's website, Made 2B More is the opportunity girls need that will empower them with healthy self-esteem and instill strong values so that they can grow up to achieve their dreams and be more. Just a girl? She is more than just a girl. She is made to be more.

Coats can be delivered to the Made 2B More Office at 736 Carroll St Suite 6 (Village Shops) in Perry.

Middle Georgia Green Industry Association Holds Inaugural Meeting

The Georgia Green Industry Association held its inaugural meeting of the Middle-Georgia Chapter on Nov. 11, 2011.

The Middle Georgia chapter of The Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) will offer industry professionals the chance to network at a local level as well as educational and professional development opportunities.

At the meeting, officers for 2011 were chosen and include:  President Tony White of Turfgro, Michael Turner of Heart of Georgia Landscaping as Vice President and David Cleveland of Cleveland Tree Company as Secretary Treasurer. Board members include Terry McNair, Casey Paulk, Neil Langston and Derrick Catlett.
