Houston Homicide Victims Identified

The Houston County Sheriff's Department identified the victims of the double homicide in Houston County.

They are Shaland McConnell, 30 years old, and Ruben Miranda, 32 years old. They're both from Jonesboro, according to a release.

Officials had to verify their identities before contacting the families because neither body had identification on them.

And third man is in custody, charged with murder in connection to the Houston County double homicide.

Sheriff's Captain Jon Holland says deputies picked-up Justice Bernard Evans early Wednesday morning in Bibb County. Evans is from Macon.

He is being held in the Houston County Jail, charged with two counts of murder, two counts of concealing the death of another and one count of tampering with evidence.

Evans is being held without bond.

He is the third man arrested in two days, in connection with two bodies found in a wooded area, near US 41, Ga 49 and North Houston Lake Road in Houston County.

Coleman Lawrence Crouch, 21, from Warner Robins and Thomas Andrew Kelley, 19, from Byron were charged Tuesday.

Kelley is charged with two counts of murder.

Crouch is charged with two counts of being party to the crime of murder, two counts of concealing a death and tampering with evidence.

Both are being held in the Houston County Jail without bond.

Holland said a man came into the sheriff's office early Monday morning and he was nervous and scared.

"The man told deputies they needed to visit a home on Chadwick Road because someone there had been shot and evidence was being cleaned up," Holland said.

While they were there they found evidence of shots being fired inside the home.

The bodies were found around noon Monday.

Holland indicated his investigators believe the two were killed between 8:00 p.m. and midnight Sunday.

Autopsies were performed Tuesday.

Neighbors on Chadwick Road told 13WMAZ said several people rented the home, and that they frequently saw cars coming and going from the house.

Holland says the case is still under investigation.
