Warner Robins Woman Sentenced to Life for Husband's Murder | Crime
Judge Edward Lukemire sentenced Ebony Passion Smith to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the 2011 murder of her husband, Brian Smith.
Lukemire also sentenced Smith to 5 years for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. That sentence will be served consecutively with the other.
Ebony Passion Smith was crying several times throughout the proceedings.
In Houston County Superior Court Wednesday, a jury found Smith guilty on a total of eight charges, including felony murder, possession of a firearm and aggravated battery.
Earlier this week, Smith testified that she intended to kill herself and not her husband.
During the sentencing hearing, members of Brian Smith's family gave statements to the court. Brian Smith's mother's sister read a statement on behalf of Brian Smith's mother to the court. Brian Smith's mother statement to the court was that her heart suffers the deepest wound.
Nick White, Ebony Passion Smith's attorney, said before sentencing that 'any words from the defense would be hollow for the victim's family.'
White also told the court that Ebony Passion Smith's tears in court were 'tears from the remorse of what she did.'
