Jury Selection Starts in Houston Murder Trial

Jury selection is underway in Houston County Superior Court today, as 28-year-old Matthew Jacob Pike and 30-year-old William Allen Slaton face several charges, including malice murder and felony murder.

The two allegedly argued, fought and then killed 25-year-old Justin Klaffka on April 10, 2012.

District Attorney George Hartwig confirmed that a third man, 36-year-old Daniel Lee Slaton struck a deal with his office for a 30-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated battery.

Daniel Lee Slaton is expected to testify that Klaffka told authorities about an armed robbery on April 8, 2012 and after killing the man his body was dumped into the Ocmulgee River.

At the time of the murder investigation, authorities told 13WMAZ that Klaffka's body was discovered April 15, 2012.
