Things to do in Houston County GA: Go Pumpkin Pickin’

Cooler weather, yards littered with leaves, and the quiet crisp air on a sunny Saturday morning are all excellent indicators that Autumn has arrived. Another good reminder is the Jack-O-Lanterns that are starting to adorn front porches and lawns.

Whether you are looking for pumpkins for Halloween or just want to be festive, here are a few of my favorite locations here in middle Georgia to check out before they sell out!

WRHS Wins Band Award

WRHS Wins Band Award

Houston County band programs were well represented this past weekend at the Sound of Silver Invitational Band Competition.

That's according to a Houston County Board of Education news release.

On Saturday, Warner Robins High and Perry High claimed the top two positions out of 20+ bands from middle and South Georgia.

According to Perry Primary Principal Elgin Mayfield, “I can tell you as a former band director how difficult it is to win ANY marching competition.  It is unreal for one system to have the top two spots in any contest weekend, let alone at the same competition!  We are fortunate to have such talented and hard working band directors in our county!”
