HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Houston County Board of Education is celebrating Exceptional Children’s Week this week. This nationwide observation serves to educate the public about the needs and capabilities of exceptional children and the programs that support them.
Two major activities are planned during Exceptional Children’s Week to communicate about special education and the accomplishments of children with exceptionalities. A reception for teachers will be on March 7 and a prom will be held March 8.
The reception to honor exceptional teachers will be March 7, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Herman Ragin Building in Perry at the central office. Awards will be presented at 4:30 p.m. The Council of Exceptional Children (CEC) of Houston County will present The Friends of Exceptional Children Awards for the second year. Winners will be announced in the following categories: special educator, general educator, service provider, administrator and business.
A prom for exceptional students will take place on March 8, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. The “Hollywood Walk of Fame” themed event will be held at Houston County High in the gymnasium. It is sponsored by the Warner Robins Civitan Club.
Houston County is part of the nationwide CEC which is celebrating its 90th birthday. The Herman Ragin Center is located at 1100 Main Street in Perry. Houston County High is located at 920 Highway 96 in Warner Robins.
