HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Northside Middle School sent two teams of students to the First Lego League Qualifier competition held in Dublin, Ga. on Dec. 8, 2012.  Both Northside Middle teams won awards and received trophies.  The Robo Jets team won the Project Research trophy, and the NASA Knights team won the Core Values Teamwork trophy.  The Robo Jets (pictured top left) now advance to the Warner Robins Super Regional competition which will be held Jan. 5, 2013, at the Museum of Aviation.

At the Dublin Qualifier, students researched innovative ways to use technology to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.  They then presented their research projects and ideas to judges. In addition, each team designed a robot and programmed it to complete various missions at the competition.  Teams were judged on their robot, project solutions, teamwork, enthusiasm and adherence to the First Lego League Core Values.

Northside Middle School’s STARBASE 2.0 Club focuses on hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities, goal-setting and team building.  STARBASE 2.0 Club is a Department of Defense afterschool mentoring club.

The NASA Knights are pictured.  Northside Middle is located at 500 Johnson Road in Warner Robins.  Jan Melnick serves as principal. For more information, please e-mail Melnick at Jan.Melnick@hcbe.net.
