Crossroads to Give Books to PSES Students | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Houston County Crossroads Center will host a “Holiday Giveaway of Books” at Pearl Stephens Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. Crossroads students and staff will deliver 200 sets of books to 200 Pearl Stephens Elementary fourth and fifth grade students as Christmas gifts.
This event is the brainchild of Crossroads Media Specialist Michael Lashley, who worked closely with Social Worker Jennifer Walker to make the vision a reality. “I wanted our students to learn to give back to the community and at the same time, help address illiteracy, which is one of the biggest obstacles facing our community,” commented Lashley. “This project allowed our alternative school students to work toward something for someone else. Our principal, Dr. Ronnie Walker, wholeheartedly supported this effort. Our students and staff reached deep into their pockets, and with the help of our fabulous administrators and social worker, our Crossroads Cougars will experience the joy of giving to the younger children. It is my hope that this simple but memorable act will lead others to continue to support their community.”
Dr. Deborah Moore-Sanders serves as principal of Pearl Stephens Elementary. Pearl Stephens is located at 215 Scott Blvd. in Warner Robins. For more information, please call Dr. Walker at the Crossroads Center at 478-929-7828.
