Car, Truck, Motorcycle Show Features Batmobile And 268 Show Cars | Community Spirit

Warner Robins, GA – A replica of one of the iconic Batmobiles was one of more than 268 vehicles that competed for a trophy at the 20th Annual Wings and Wheels Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show at the Museum of Aviation on Saturday, October 13, 2012. It was good enough for one of the114 total trophies presented at the show. The day-long event put on by the Museum of Aviation Foundation drew nearly 5,000 spectators marking it the largest public–attended event at the Museum each year. 

The Batman tribute replica was built by U.S. Air Force SMSgt Jack Orrell stationed with the 461st Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.  It’s equipped with air bag suspension, an electrical actuated canopy, electrical actuated 1919A4 replica machine guns, a lighted turbine/afterburner, a back-up camera system and a DVD player with 2 LCD screens.  It took Orrell more than 6 years to build the 20-foot long replica on a 1975 Chevrolet Impala chassis.  It has a 305 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 motor in it and a new 700R4 Automatic Chevrolet transmission. 

Orrell also brought the only taxi cab returned to the United States from the iconic "Captain America: First Avenger" movie.   The 1937 Chevy Master Sedan taxi cab is featured during the Heinz Kruger chase scene following Steve Roger’s transformation into the “Super Soldier.”  Two other 461st Control Wing airmen from Robins Air Force Base dressed in costume to support the display - Senior Airman Jordan Guzman as Batman and MSgt. Evelardo Deleon as Captain America.         

Wings and Wheels annually draws cars from all over the state of Georgia and often gets cars from adjoining states.  This year three car owners from Tallahassee and Orange Park, Florida took home special awards. The show also featured monster truck rides, car and food vendors, a cars-for-sale corral, kiddie car races for ages 3-8, a car and truck model display and a silent auction. David Ragan’s #34 racecar was also at the show.  The night before the show,  a poker fun run put on by the Corvettes Ltd. of Central Georgia car club raised additional money for the Museum of Aviation.

The Museum of Aviation is the second largest museum in the U.S. Air Force with a collection of more than 80 aircraft and missiles and four large buildings for exhibits and  education classes.  More than 600,000 visitors from around the world visited the Museum last year.
