HCBOE Names 17 Outstanding Women in Education

Seventeen women from the Houston County Board of Education will be honored Saturday, March 5, 2011, as recipients of the Outstanding Women in Education award. 

They will be recognized during the “It’s Time!” Unity Conference.  The conference will be held in the Century of Flight building at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The honorees will be presented awards from 2:00 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. and also recognized at a reception from 2:40 to 3:30 p.m.  Special guests include First Lady Sandra Deal and Becky Scott.   

 A total of 30 honorees were selected from across Georgia with nominees coming from not only Houston, but also Baldwin, Bibb, DeKalb, Fulton, Henry, Lowndes, Newton, Peach and Twiggs. 

Networking Opportunities At Chamber’s March Business After Hours

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce would like to invite established members, new members and the general public as our guests to the March Business After Hours.

Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps Hold Public Hearings

Sen. Robert Brown (D-Macon) and Rep. Bubber Epps (D-Dry Branch) together will hold two public hearings on Saturday, March 6.

At the first, to be held at the Twiggs County Courthouse, Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps will seek input on House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110 that could affect a Twiggs County landfill, and will also seek input on proposed salary increases for the Twiggs County Board of Education.

The second public hearing will be held at the Bibb Substation on Jeffersonville Road, also to discuss House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110. House Bill 274, if passed, would re-introduce yard trimmings and vegetative matter to landfills in Georgia.

Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Hotel

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to host a ribbon cutting for hotel Courtyard by Marriott Friday, March 4.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 4 p.m.

The Courtyard by Marriott is located at 589 Carl Vinson Parkway in Warner Robins.

Thomson Middle Hosts Career Day

Thomson Middle School will host a Career Day for eighth-grade students on Friday, Feb. 25. 

The event will take place on the Connections Hall and in the gymnasium between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The objective of the event is to help students get an idea of what they may want to do in the future.  Students will have the opportunity to hear a variety of speakers share information on their careers.  Additionally, several colleges will exhibit and have representatives present to answer students' questions.

"Career Day is an excellent way to expose students to the real world of work and give them some goals to look forward to in the future," said Timothy Deas, Thomson Middle Achievement Specialist.  “This event helps them get a general idea of what they may want to do in life and what they will need to do in order to accomplish their goals.”

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Committee, chaired by Mike Hogan, will host the March Robins Regional Business Forum on Friday, March 4 at noon at the Chamber of Commerce.

The Robins Regional Business Forum series is devoted to the development of businesses, large and small as well as the community throughout the Robins Region.  The 2011 slate hopes to be very pertinent and enriching to the business community.

MGTC Names Finalists for GOAL Award

MGTC Names Finalists for GOAL Award

Four Middle Georgia Technical College students have been selected as the college’s finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Janet Kelly, coordinator for the MGTC’s GOAL program.

These four students will now move on to the final round of judging to become MGTC’s GOAL winner, or Student of the Year.

Chosen as semifinalists are Mark Craddock of Warner Robins, nominated by Evelyn Grove, Radiologic Technology; Rhonda Mincey of Perry, nominated by Susan Walker, Criminal Justice Technology; Vanessa Phillips of Warner Robins, nominated by Antonio Shelley, Industrial Systems Technology; and Jessica Worsley of Bonaire, nominated by Anne Sartain, Practical Nursing.
