Local Mom Wins $200,000 Playing Powerball

A Warner Robins mother is celebrating a $200,000 Powerball win.

Sherry Mauldin won the prize by matching the first five winning numbers in the Feb. 12 drawing, a Georgia Lottery news release says.

Mauldin discovered her win on the Georgia Lottery website and immediately shared the news with her husband, Steven.

“He thought I was just playing until I turned white,” said Mauldin, an account executive with a telecommunications company.

Mauldin and her husband plan to pay bills and share the prize with their five children.

“I think we’re going on a cruise to the Bahamas this year,” she added. “We’ve been before, but we’ll make this one extra special.”

Winning numbers from the Feb. 12 drawing were: 11-32-36-48-52 and the Powerball was 19.

Publix Super Market on 1114 Ga. Highway 96 in Kathleen, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

Proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Speed Networking event, sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting, on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

Speed Networking is a structured effective and powerful event that’s fun and friendly and will provide new and established Chamber members the opportunity to meet industry related peers, business contacts & referrals in a pleasant environment.

The Speed Networking event includes a continental breakfast, followed by structured and timed meetings designed to afford participants maximum exposure in a short amount of time. Participants are encouraged to bring a stack of business cards and other paraphernalia to share and exchange with others.

The cost is $15.00 for Chamber members and non-members are welcome for $25.00.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 18, 2011There will be NO CANCELLATIONS after 5 p.m. on Friday, February 18.

Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for New Wyle Office Location

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Wyle’s new Warner Robins office location Friday, Feb. 4.

The new Wyle facility provides support to the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center and Ogden Air Logistics Center in Layton, Utah. Beginning with only a handful of employees in 2002, the local office staff has grown to more than 60, enhancing day-to-day customer communications and support.

For the past eight years the Warner Robins office has expanded, providing support to the Air Force with reliability centered maintenance studies and analysis, Mechanical System Integrity Program development, critical safety items studies and analyses, modernization programs, modeling and simulation, finite element analyses and parts obsolescence. The local office provides analytical services in support of various customer programs, such as F-15, C-5, C-130, C-17, T-38, and A-10.

Flint Energies Announces April 1 Rate Change for Some Members, Not Residential

While Flint Energies’ residential rate will remain steady at the current 9.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, the Board of Directors have taken action to make changes in several rate schedules, effective Apr. 1, 2011.

About 7100 members billed under the Small General Service rate (FSGS-20) which covers businesses under 20 kilowatts (kW) of demand will see a slight increase in their costs as the base charge moves from $20 to $22 per month, a Flint Energies news release says. Their energy charge will remain the same.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting for Allen Insurance Group on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

Allen Insurance Group has grown from a small family- owned Insurance Company in 1952 to one of the largest Insurance providers in the nation.

Career Fair for High School Students

Area high school sophomores will participate in a career fair Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the Agricenter in Perry. 

The 15th annual Dr. Maxx Career Fair Scavenger Hunt will take place in the McGill Marketplace building from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.

Approximately 1,000 students from Houston, Dooly, Peach and Pulaski counties will attend. 

The purpose of the event is to help students plan for their future. 

The career fair will inform them about job opportunities and the requirements for different occupations, providing insight into a variety of careers.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Elizabeth Spears Zupkow as the Chamber Ambassador of the Year, 2010 Heide Hubbard Ambassador of the Year.

The award is named for the late Heide Hubbard, a Chamber news release says.
