Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Family Promise of Greater Houston County

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening for Family Promise of Houston County.

Located at 213 McArthur Boulevard in Warner Robins, Family Promise is a nonprofit 501(c) (3), non-denominational organization for families in transition and is part of a national organization founded in 1986. The Family Promise Network Program provides shelter, meals and support services to families without homes through a network of local congregations.

Young Astronauts Day at the Museum of Aviation

A live hookup with the Kennedy Space Center in Florida will highlight the Annual Young Astronauts’ Day at the Museum of Aviation on Saturday, May 11.  The students will be welcomed by Colonel Mitch Butikofer from Robins Air Force Base.  The opening ceremony will feature Rachel B. Power, a NASA education specialist from Kennedy Space Center talking live to more than 200 first through eight-grade students on large digital learning network screens in the Century of Flight Hangar. 

Each student will then attend three different workshops around the Museum taught by Museum staff members and volunteer class leaders from Middle Georgia, Robins AFB and the Houston County School system. 

Young Astronauts Day sponsors are the Air Force Association, Belks, a NASA grant, Fort Valley State University Cooperative Development Energy Program, the NASA Regional Educator Resource Center and the Museum of Aviation Foundation.

Air Force Reserve Band to Perform at Shirley Hill Elementary

 

The Band of the Air Force Reserve will perform at Shirley Hill Elementary April 30, 2013, as part of Month of the Military Child celebration. The performance will take place at 2:30 p.m.

During the program, the school will recognize its military children and families.  The Air Force Reserve Band members will present one of their last performances in the area before the band is fully deactivated in June.

Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Body Blyng

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Ribbon Cutting Body Blyng.

Started as a project by sisters Kin Hathcock and Pam Smith, Body Blyng offers professional face painting, and temporary body art for events and special occasions.

“We make an ordinary event into an extraordinary affair,” said Smith.  “From small birthday celebrations to church and school events, grand openings and customer appreciation days, Body Blyng can provide fun for all ages.”

Additionally, Body Blyng offers temporary glitter tatoos, temporary air brush tattoos, balloon twisting, and henna for events and parties.  They are licensed and insured.

Veterans High School Farm Ribbon Cutting

 

Veterans High School is pleased to announce the addition of a school farm to its Agriculture Program. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held April 30, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. 

The school farm allows students to experience working with livestock while supervised.  Mike Parker and Clay Walker serve as agriculture education teachers.  Currently the farm houses several cows and a pig.

“Having these animals on campus has multiplied opportunities for hands-on instruction and content area fieldtrips for students and teachers,” said Parker.  “In addition to all of our agriculture students, teachers and students in our science, English, math and special education departments have made instructional use of the facility.”
