Air Force Reserve Band Nominated for Emmy

The Band of the United States Air Force Reserve's 2009 "Holiday Notes from Home" was nominated for a regional Emmy award.

The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science announced nominations for the 25th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards last month.

According to a news release, Holiday Notes From Home is produced to send a touch of home to service members and their families serving abroad during the holiday season.

American Forces Network broadcasts the production to 177 countries and all the ships at sea, which reaches 1.1 million service members and their families.

Celebrities accompanying the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve on the 2009 Emmy-nominated production were Amy Grant, Take 6 and Brian McKnight.

The 25th MidSouth Emmy Awards will be telecast live on Jan. 29, 2011.

Day 3 of 13 Days of Giving: Twilight Moms

Twilight Moms of Middle Georgia is a non-profit group that was formed in 2009 to bring together Moms (women who are over 21, married or have children) who are fans of the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer.  

They not only enjoy meeting and sharing enthusiasm for this series but love helping local and national charities while having fun.

How You Can Help:
Twilight Moms will have an event on Dec. 3 from 10 p.m.-Midnight at the Galleria in Centerville.  Twilight Moms will celebrate the release of Eclipse on DVD but will also have several fundraisers during the event.  They will have a Cookies for Kids with Cancer bake sale, will collect items for Christmas for the Children’s Hospital and will also collect canned food items for Monroe County EMS.

Museum of Aviation Holds Poster Contest

The Museum of Aviation Education Department is inviting 4th graders to submit an entry in the 8th Annual Skyscapes Poster Contest.  This year’s theme is “What Can You Do With Red, White and Blue?” in honor of the American Flag’s Colors.  

Individual entries must be delivered to the Education Department by Nov. 5, and judging will take place on Nov. 9.  Entries will be judged on artistic talent and creativity in representing the theme.  Posters will be judged by the Robins Air Force Base Officer’s Spouses’ Club and other community leaders. The top 7 winners will receive prizes, and their artwork will be on display in the Century of Flight Hangar for a year following the contest.
