Veterans High School Farm Ribbon Cutting

Veterans High School is pleased to announce the addition of a school farm to its Agriculture Program. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held April 30, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.

The school farm allows students to experience working with livestock while supervised.  Mike Parker and Clay Walker serve as agriculture education teachers.  Currently the farm houses several cows and a pig.

“Having these animals on campus has multiplied opportunities for hands-on instruction and content area fieldtrips for students and teachers,” said Parker.  “In addition to all of our agriculture students, teachers and students in our science, English, math and special education departments have made instructional use of the facility.”

Board member Skip Dawkins is pictured petting Captain Jack during a visit to the farm.  Veterans High School is located at 340 Piney Grove Road in Kathleen.  The farm is located at the back of the campus beyond the baseball field, which is behind the gym parking lot.  Dr. Lionel Brown serves as principal. For more information, contact Sherry Johnson, Assistant Principal CTAE, at 478-218-7537, ext. 64038, or sherry.johnson@hcbe.net.
