Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce Presents Parade Grand Marshal Award
Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce Presents Parade Grand Marshal Award

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Parade Committee, awarded the Robins Regional Chamber Christmas Parade’s 2010 Grand Marshall Award to the Den 2- Tiger “Sharks” Pack 422 (Cub Scouts).

The lively group of 6 and 7 year-olds were ecstatic to receive such an honor as they were handed the award and even took a moment to read aloud the plaque’s inscription as it was given to them.

“We had lots of fun coming up with the idea and getting the guys together to construct our float,” said Marty Hoover, Tiger Sharks Den Leader.  “I think the thing that impressed most people was our simulation of fake smoke; we used a generator for that.”

The group had never participated in the Robins Regional Christmas Parade until this year and came up with the plan as the parade date approached.  Col. Carl Buhler, 78th Air Base Wing Commander at Robins AFB and Den Leader for the Tiger Sharks said that experiencing the parade with his son and the rest of Pack 422 was a great experience.  Hoover said that Col. Buhler was able to get the camouflage gear to top off the outdoor feel of their float.

Fritz Marggraff, Parade Chairman expressed appreciation for the group’s consistent enthusiasm throughout the parade as well as their creativity and camaraderie amongst each other.

“Many groups that finish out the parade tend to get a bit tired and weary near the end, but the Tiger Cubs remained energetic and enthusiastic even after entering the disembarking zone.  You all truly were spirited and are very deserving of this award.”

The Grand Marshall Award, awarded to the unit dubbed “best in show,” was judged by the 2010 Parade Committee and awarded by the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce.  The winners of this award will have priority placement in the 2011 Robins Regional Chamber Christmas Parade.  The Den 2- Tiger “Sharks” Pack 422 also won Best Civic float, judged by the Civitan Club.

This year’s parade was themed, “An Armed Forces Appreciation Christmas” in honor of the many men and women who serve in the United States Armed Services.  Representatives from each of the 4 military branches were honored as parade’s Grand Marshals and were featured on the very first float.  Also featured in the parade were Maj. Gen. Robert McMahon and his wife Hope.

The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is one of Georgia's largest Christmas holiday events and provides a great opportunity for area organizations and businesses to gain valuable exposure and show off their community spirit.  While the parade is attended by thousands of community members, many others, including business owners, educational organizations and recreational entities participate with floats, marching units and other entries in efforts to kick-off the holiday season!
