The 5th Grade FOCUS Oratorical Contest will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Perry Board office at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.

Eighteen fifth-graders representing all elementary schools will each give a two-minute speech on the topic, “If I Were Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would be ... "

The school representative is selected by a panel of judges at the school level.

Three judges that will include high school debate coaches and a counselor, will select the top three speakers by using a rubric. The winners will be given a cash award: with first place winning $25, second place $15 and third place $10.  Winners will also be invited to perform at a future Board meeting.  All orators will receive a certificate of participation.

The Board office is located at 1100 Main Street in Perry.  For more information, contact the Director of Gifted and AP Programs Jan Jacobsen at 478-988-6200, ext. 10513, or Jan.Jacobsen@hcbe.net
