Ceremony for Governor's Honors Nominees
Events, Schools

The Houston County Board of Education will hold a breakfast to honor the 2011 Governor’s Honors Nominees on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 7 a.m, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.

Sixty-six students will be recognized at a breakfast at the Herman Ragin Center followed by a recognition ceremony at 7:30 a.m.

The students were nominated by their teachers based on academic achievement and the students’ passion for a certain area such as agriculture, chemistry, mathematics, social studies, visual art, theatre, music or technology.

The program began in 1964, making 2011 the 48th year of GHP.

The nominees will be interviewed beginning January 29, 2011, by a state committee which will select finalists for the program.  Students will be notified on March 25, via the Governor’s Honors Program Web site, of their status.

Finalists will attend a four-week summer program at Valdosta State beginning on June 26, 2011, designed to help participants acquire skills, knowledge and attitudes that encourage independent, life-long learning.

The Herman Ragin Center (building D) is located at 1100 Main Street in Perry.
